Next Generation, Higher Education: Challenges, Changes and Opportunities

The HERDSA Executive is pleased to announce the following travel grants in support of HERDSA members attending the conference.

  • The new Early Career Travel Grant awards FIVE grants up to AUD$1000 each.
  • The Taylor & Francis Conference Travel Grant offers FIVE grants up to AUD$500 each.
  • The HERDSA student travel grant of AUD$1000.

 

 

HERDSA Early Career Travel Grant (five grants up to AUD$1000 each)

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED

HERDSA aims to support early career staff (academic and professional) in teaching and learning. Participating in the annual HERDSA conference is an opportunity for early career staff to present their research or practice in teaching and learning in higher education, network with experienced scholars, and learn from colleagues.

Early career is defined as not more than five years cumulative experience in higher education.

Five travel grants of up to AUD$1,000 are available to provide support for early career staff (academic or professional) to attend and participate in the HERDSA conference.

Preference will be given to applicants who

  • Can demonstrate financial hardship (e.g. geographical location or other personal circumstances).
  • Will attend and participate in the full conference.
  • Have an accepted conference presentation based on their research or practice.
  • Are the sole author of the presentation (if joint, indicate percentage contribution) and will lead the presentation at the conference.
  • Are willing to write a contribution to HERDSA Connect or other HERDSA publication if asked.
  • Have had limited or no opportunities to attend similar conferences.
  • Have not previously received a HERDSA-related travel/conference grant.

Taylor & Francis Conference Travel Grant (five grants up to AUD$500 each)

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED

Taylor & Francis, the publishers of HERDSA’s journal Higher Education Research & Development (HERD) is a sponsor of the annual HERSDA conference. As part of that sponsorship, HERDSA is able to offer five travel grants of up to AUD$500 per applicant to support HERDSA members attend the annual HERDSA conference. Awards will be payable in Australian dollars and are to be used to support travel, accommodation or subsistence of the successful applicant.

Eligibility

The travel grants are open to all current HERDSA members.

Application requirements

Applicants must

  • Indicate that they are able to attend the full conference.
  • Have been accepted to present a paper at the HERDSA conference (including showcase presentations, posters, round tables, workshops or similar).
  • Be willing to write a contribution to HERDSA Connect or other HERDSA publication if asked.
  • Have had limited or no opportunities to attend similar conferences.
  • Be able to demonstrate financial hardship (e.g. student, geographical location, no institutional support or other personal circumstances).
  • Have not received a HERDSA-related travel grant previously.

Applicants for a travel grant must complete the Taylor and Frances HERDSA Conference Travel Grant Application Form. Applications should be received by the HERDSA Office (office@herdsa.org.au) by 13 May 2019.

 

HERDSA student travel grant (one grant up to AUD$1000)

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED

A travel grant of up to AUD$1,000 is available to provide support for an undergraduate or postgraduate student to attend and participate in the HERDSA conference.

Preference will be given to applicants who

  • Can demonstrate financial hardship (e.g. geographical location or other personal circumstances).
  • Are able to attend the full conference.
  • Have an accepted conference presentation based on their research or project.
  • Are the sole author of the presentation rather than a joint author (if joint, indicate percentage contribution).
  • Are willing to write a contribution to HERDSA Connect  or other HERDSA publication if asked.
  • Have had limited, or no, opportunities to attend similar conferences.
  • Have not previously received a HERDSA-related travel grant.

To apply, download the Student Travel Grant Application Form that addresses all the criteria above and email to office@herdsa.org.au. Also submit a supporting letter from the applicant’s research supervisor, including a statement indicating that the applicant complies with the criteria.

 

Selection process

Applications will be assessed by a sub-committee of the HERDSA Executive. Applicants will be selected on the basis of demonstrated need and the quality of the application. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified as soon as possible so that all applicants can take advantage of the early bird discounted rate.
